When I first heard that Darlene Hensch was expecting quadruplets, my immediate thought was… wow. She’s about to be one very busy mama—especially with a three-year-old already at home. I have three boys myself, and I remember just how full those early days felt. But juggling one newborn—or even two—is a completely different world than bringing home four at once.
I had never actually met Darlene before her newborn session. Her business, Sunny Creek Cleaning, is in the same commercial building as my studio in downtown Westlock, but somehow our paths had never crossed. Once I heard the babies had arrived, though, I found myself completely drawn into their story, following along on social media like so many others. These little miracles made their entrance at great weights for quadruplets and, incredibly, only spent a few weeks in the hospital before heading home.
Not long after, I reached out to Darlene and offered her a complimentary newborn session—something about this story just felt too special not to capture.
When session day arrived, the Quadruplets were exactly one month old, it was truly all hands on deck. Darlene came with her full crew—her mom and a friend in tow—and I made sure to have my assistant, Lacey, there as well, knowing I’d need every extra set of hands. We started the only way you really can with four newborns: feeding time. Once the first baby was fed and settled, I began photographing them individually, working through each little personality one by one before attempting the group shots… and then adding in big sister Alyvia, and of course, mom.
It was a constant rhythm of feeding, changing, soothing, and shooting—four hours that flew by in a blur. And just as we wrapped up? Time to feed everyone all over again.
Meet the babies in their birth order…
The “oldest” of the crew and first to be born at 5 lbs 2 oz and 45.5 cm (17.9″)

Second oldest coming in at exactly 5lbs and 45.5 cm (17.9″)

Third in line is the only girl of the bunch, and smallest baby weighing in at 4.5 lbs and 44 cm (17.3″)

The youngest of the group and biggest baby coming in at 5.3 lbs and 46 cm (18.1″)

It still blows my mind that all four of these beautiful babies arrived weighing between 4–5 pounds—especially considering Darlene was just 33 weeks and 5 days along. I mean… that’s nearly 20 pounds of baby. How is that even possible? The female body is absolutely incredible, and Darlene did an amazing job taking care of herself and growing four healthy little humans at the same time.
And we definitely can’t forget Alivia. Becoming a big sister overnight to four newborns is no small transition, but she’s already stepping into her role so beautifully. Darlene has done such a thoughtful job of keeping her included through it all, while still making sure she gets that one-on-one attention too. Going from an only child to one of five is a big shift—but if this is any indication, she’s handling it like a pro.

When we did this session, the quadruplets were exactly one month old, weighing in at around 6 pounds each—and still about two weeks shy of their actual due date. Which honestly makes it even more incredible.
When I first reached out to Darlene, I was completely upfront with her—I hadn’t done a fully posed newborn session in a few years. It was something I had stepped away from, and I knew I might be a little rusty. Are these images perfect? No. But considering I was working with four babies and only a short window with each one, I’m really proud of what we created together. My typical newborn sessions used to run 2–3 hours with just one baby to capture a variety of setups… so this was a whole different pace. That said, it reminded me just how much I love these sessions—because honestly, there’s nothing better than snuggling newborns.

I’m so excited to keep following along with Darlene and her beautiful family, and I truly hope to have this crew back in front of my lens for some milestone sessions as they grow. You can follow her on Instragram at https://www.instagram.com/westlock.county.quadruplets/
In fact, this session sparked something for me—I’ve decided to start offering newborn sessions again here in my Westlock studio. I will be limiting them to just a couple each month though… because let’s be real, these sessions are hard on the lower back, and I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore. 😅
If you’re expecting in the coming year and thinking about a newborn session, I’d love to connect and chat more. You can inquire here!
